Youth choose uni, work over national service
The Defence Force Association says there is a shortage of young people signing up because more school leavers are going to university and unemployment levels are low.
The association’s Neil James says the only long-term solution to personnel shortages is to improve wages and conditions to make work in the Defence Force more attractive.
But he says conscription may be needed if there was ever a serious conflict in the region.
Could it be SAAH! that lots of our young bright-eyed and bushy-tailed kiddies aren't signing up on account of that other part of the Work Choices wages and conditions (no matter how sexy and 6 figured they might - but probably won't ever be) is the likelihood of being sent of to some dodgy theatre of war chosen by a 'line in the sand, we'll never 'k'n' cut'n'run' gubbermint de la jour, to be shot at, bombed and ducked in the local swimming pool by those kids (probably micks or muslins) across the street what've always looked like they woz spoiling for a barney.
Conscription! REALLY! Conscription is to a military strategy as intelligent design is to common or garden science. (Please yerselves where you put yer Stephen Hawkings and Paul Davies into that equation.)
